Photo rock star Steve McCurry, mostly of National Geographic fame, has kicked me in the teeth with a real gut-check photo. I don't have a location or description of where exactly McCurry got this, but I am going to try and track it down. I am assuming Colombia because I know he has done work there...but no guarantee. Go to his website. Buy his stuff. http://www.stevemccurry.com/main.php

Just stumbled upong Mccurry's site after NPR did a story on him and was caught offguard by this photo. Searching google for more info on it and found your great blog. Did you find anything on this pic...?

I haven't been able to find the picture yet. When you know, please come back and let me know.

just captures it got no words to explain it
I just saw this photo at a McCurry exhibit at the Centro Cultural Borges in Buenos Aires. It stopped me in my tracks. Kicked in the teeth is right. I'm searching online for background on it (that's how I arrived here). The label next to it only said "Latin America."
Picture was taken in
Alto Churumazu, Yanesha, Peru 2004.
I can't find any more than that.
Thanks JHD... I also emailed his office to see if they might share any more information, but no response as of yet. Where did you find that information?
I found the info at

he gives an explanation on his website http://stevemccurry.photoshelter.com/image/I0000nud90M5DESw
And the prize goes to Suzie for her finally finding the caption. Many of us have been all over Steve-o's web site (though, in my case, I can hardly call it with crusade zeal). Thanks for the link. Part of me is happy to find out we're just looking at a kid with a toy. The other part of me feels horrible and sensationalist.
sigh of relief and yet somehow, not. thanks for the info, though, i swear i looked at that photo on his site and never saw that detailed info.
